Classical Highlights for September 2024

Reviewers this month lined music well-known to vast classical audiences and far that might be new to many, each from not too long ago written works and works uncared for as time handed. Among the many former are piano quartets by Brahms, that includes the late Lars Vogt on piano in his closing recording, and Isata Kanneh-Mason’s recording of works of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. Additionally highlighted have been uncommon operatic recordings, reminiscent of Leoš Janáček’s opera The Excursions of Mr. Brouček and the recorded premiere of Joachim Raff’s Die Eifersüchtigen. Albums of recent music included Solos that includes compositions by The Nationwide’s Bryce Dessner and Anna Clyne: Shorthand, with Eric Jacobsen (pictured) main his orchestra, The Knights.
